Aims and Vision

ROMDIEM is driven by the belief that remembrance is not only about looking back, but also about shaping the future. The project aims to:

  • Preserve and honor the memory of Roma Holocaust victims
  • Educate and raise awareness about the Roma Genocide (Porajamos) within European society
  • Highlight the cultural richness and historical significance of Roma communities
  • Promote values of tolerance, inclusion, and respect through remembrance initiatives.

Project Timeline

Target Groups

ROMDIEM is designed to engage a diverse range of audiences, each playing a vital role in remembrance and education:

  • Roma Communities: Particularly Roma youth and elders, to empower them to share, preserve, and celebrate their history and cultural heritage
  • General Public: Citizens across Europe who may be unaware of the Roma Holocaust, encouraging broader awareness and solidarity
  • Educators and Academics: To incorporate Roma history into educational curricula and promote inclusive historical research
  • Civil Society Organizations: Especially those focused on human rights, minority rights, and historical memory, fostering collaboration and shared learning
Throughout its duration, the ROMDIEM Project will implement a series of impactful initiatives:
  • Commemorative events honoring the Roma victims of the Holocaust.
  • Educational workshops and seminars promoting awareness and historical understanding.
  • Public and digital campaigns showcasing Roma culture and testimonies.
  • Collection and publication of survivor stories, preserving oral histories for future generations.
  • Collaborative forums encouraging dialogue between Roma communities, institutions, and the wider public.
