CSABA HORVATH
The interview was recorded at the municipal office of the village of Barca in southern Slovakia, where Mr. Csaba Horväth works as a specialist officer. Mr. Horvath’s family history reflects the deep contrasts of the Roma experience during World War II. Descended from poor Roma, including a musician grandfather who played in Hungary and a shoemaker in Filakovo, his heritage is rooted in a region that belonged to Hungary during the war. Through stories told by his grandparents, he recalls not only the harsh persecution Roma faced in Slovakia but also vital histories of solidarity, where entire villages stood up to protect their Roma neighbors, refusing to allow their deportation or the relocation of their settlements.
