📚 ROMDIEM Desk Research Phase Successfully Completed!
We are pleased to announce the completion of the Desk Research phase of the ROMDIEM Project—a major milestone in our mission to preserve and document the history of the Roma Holocaust (Samudaripen) across Europe.
Over the past months, partners from eight countries—Belgium, Greece, Serbia, Italy, Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia, and Bulgaria—have worked intensively to gather, analyze, and review over 80 scholarly and historical resources. This comprehensive literature review forms the backbone of ROMDIEM’s knowledge base and highlights national and regional approaches to the remembrance, recognition, and historiography of the Roma Holocaust.
🔍 What We’ve Learned
The desk research phase uncovered:
- Vast differences in how the Roma Holocaust is acknowledged across European countries;
- Striking gaps in institutional memory and education;
- A rich but fragmented body of work that urgently needs consolidation and accessibility;
- Valuable insights into ongoing challenges in representation, remembrance, and justice for Roma communities.
📝 What Comes Next: The ROMDIEM White Paper
We are now in the process of consolidating these findings into a comprehensive White Paper, which will offer:
- A comparative overview of how the Roma Holocaust is documented in each partner country;
- Recommendations for policymakers, educators, and institutions;
- A foundation for future advocacy, awareness campaigns, and educational materials.
This White Paper will serve as a key reference for stakeholders across Europe committed to truth, remembrance, and reconciliation.
Stay tuned—the White Paper will be published very soon, and we look forward to sharing these essential findings with a broader audience.
