The interview was recorded in the Mr. Sendrei’s family home, in Kokava nad Rimavicou which has a community center on the ground floor. Mr. Sendrei’s background is one of diverse heritage, with a musician grandfather and a non-Roma grandmother. His father, a miner in Ostrava, endured forced labor during the war, ultimately gaining liberation by American forces and later receiving official recognition for his suffering as a prisoner. Meanwhile, his grandmother was forced to hide from the Germans in Hnusta, illustrating the pervasive danger and struggle for survival that marked this tumultuous period for the family.
